Arts Development Directives

Arts Development has a mandate to develop and promote the Cultural and Creative Industries in the KwaZulu-Natal Province.

Creative Industries is identified by the 6th Administration as one of the priority sectors that have the potential to grow and contribute to the South African economy and KwaZulu-Natal province and thereby creating much-needed jobs.

This in line with the mandate as specified by the National Development Plan, Mzansi Golden Economy, South African Cultural Observatory (SACO), and UNESCO.

Objectives

To improve and develop the requisite skills which will increase productivity and uplift the standards of the Cultural and Creative industries in KZN.
To provide support to cultural and creative industry sectors.
To provide safe and conducive facilities for cultural &
creative industries.
To provide support to Cultural institutions, art centers and
organisations.
To provides marketing opportunities at a local and
international level to enhance competitiveness in the
creative economy to create job opportunities.

Programmes
  • Local and International markets DECOREX, SARCDA and other platforms which aims at providing exposure and growing the industry through exports.
  • Provincial Theatre Festival for all districts in KZN.
  • Provincial Choral Competition showcases individual talent within the choral fraternity.
  • Provision of conductors and adjudicators workshops in order to grow and enhance choral music and individual talent.
  • Provision of capacity building workshops on Fashion Design, Craft production, visual arts, audiovisual, dance, poetry, comedy and Music development for creative arts practitioners.
  • Grants-in-Aid for aspirant cultural and creative industries in order to contribute to the South African creative economy.
  • Provision of administrative support to arts and culture structures such as Federation of Community Arts Centre’s (FCAC), Cultural and Creative Industries of South Africa
    (CCIFSA), KwaZulu Natal Music Association of South Africa (KUMISA) and KZN Cultural Creative Industries Forum.
  • Provision of support to Cultural Institutions, Art Centres and Arts and Culture organizations.
  • Provision of support to Regional Office Management.
  • Development of the Cultural and Creative Industries Database for all sectors.
